Netherlands Travel Restrictions Update  – Entry Requirements

The Netherlands authorities have set and enforced the entry rules.

Citizens must be aware that with the effect of February 1, 2022, new EU-wide regulations on the validity of EU-COVID digital certificates came into force. EU-DCCs based on primary vaccination are only valid for travel within 270 days of the last dose of the primary vaccination series.

If You are Fully Vaccinated

  • Fully vaccinated British citizens who can show proof of proper vaccination, including NHS COVID passports, are admitted to the Netherlands. 
  • Check the Dutch Government website to see if it is considered fully vaccinated. 
  • Air travelers must also finish the Health Declaration and present it upon request during the trip. It is not necessary if you are traveling by ferry or road. Upon arrival, your form will be checked by the health and safety authorities.

About Vaccination Status and Proof

Dutch authorities will accept the UK COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate and the COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate issued by the Royal Territory in digital form or paper. 

Passengers should have their last vaccination dose at least 14 days before travel and 28 days if they take the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine. Vaccination proof has a validity period of 270 days from the date of receipt after the last dose of the first vaccination. 

Two hundred seventy days from the last dose of the first series, a booster shot must be considered fully vaccinated. Currently, there is no expiration date for boosters. NHS booking cards from the Vaccination Center are not eligible for proof of vaccination. Travelers must also present a vaccination declaration form.

Netherlands Travel Restrictions Update For Residents

British citizens residing legally in the Netherlands can retake entry into the country regardless of vaccination status and must present one of these.

Upon arrival in the Netherlands, you can be cross-examined by the Dutch border authorities. 

This restriction does not apply to travelers from countries on the Dutch government’s safe countries/regions list to the Netherlands.

  • If you are going to see a family member who is terminally ill.
  • Attending the funeral of your close relative/Family member.
  • Grandparents are meeting their newborn grandchildren for the first time.
  • Parents who are divorced are going to meet their minor children.

However, remember that all the passengers must have completed a form of exemption before they travel.

EU Entry Ban Exemption Cases

The EU  ban applies to people from countries other than the European Union / Schengen Area. There are exceptions to immigration bans. For example, if you are entering from a safe country or have a certificate of vaccination or a certificate of recovery. This vaccination or recovery certificate must meet specific requirements. After March 23, 2022, people traveling to the Netherlands will no longer need to show negative test results.

If you have been infected with COVID-19 in the last 180 days 

You can use your NHS COVID pass to show evidence of recovery from COVID-19 when you enter the Netherlands. The issue date must be at least 11 days and less than 180 days. And if you have a valid recovery certificate, then you will be exempted from the entry ban of the EU. Travelers also need to carry a recovery notice.

Netherlands Travel Restrictions Update When Traveling from an EU/Schengen Country

Travelers from these areas do not have to follow coronavirus invasion requirements:

  • Countries within the Schengen area/EU
